How do you get started with mindset training?
A simple answer to one of the most common questions I get
A common question I get with mindset work: "How do I get started?"
There's no one right place to begin. The best place to start is in the area (3 of them below) that you need the most work. Stay focused there for 30 days, re-evaluate, and repeat.
Here are the 3 areas of your mental performance you need to assess:
Nervous system regulation: You have control over your physiology and can remain poised under pressure.
Examples: box breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, grounding.
Attentional control: You know how to guide your mind to find the important data and focus on the right things at the right time.
Examples: mindfulness, focal cues, release/reset/refocus
Cognitive strategies: You can deploy mental skills to elevate your game.
Examples: self-talk, visualization
When you think of "getting started," most people think of #3. But the truth is, any of these areas is valuable.
Today’s exercise is simple.
Pick an area. Identify an exercise you want to do to boost your skill there. Commit for 30 days.
